14th Doctor Who: 10 Actors Who Could Play Russell T. Davies’ Doctor
4. Michael Sheen
Bringing back RTD is a move that was clearly made to win over the fans that had distanced themselves with the show - and it will almost definitely work. But if the BBC are already bringing out the big guns, why not go the whole hog and cast the fanbase’s number one pick for The Doctor.
The online masses have been clamouring for Michael Sheen in the role for years, and have recently made their voices heard in a Radio Times poll, in which he was voted the best actor for the job. To their credit, the fanbase is spot on with this choice - Sheen would make a fantastic Doctor that could stand up to some of the greatest to date.
Sheen notably landed major roles in the early naughties in the Underworld and Twilight series’, and has gone on to put his name to many well-known movies and TV shows, including two roles opposite his close friend and former Doctor, David Tennant, in Good Omens and Staged. Sheen has technically already appeared in NuWho already, though in a voice role only, playing a very memorable part as House, the parasitic, TARDIS-eating planet from The Doctor’s Wife. It’s fair to say, he already has a connection to the show, and is rumoured to have been approached in the past for the role, though this was never confirmed.
This casting is maybe not as much of a pipe dream as people might think. We have a feeling Sheen may just take the job one day...
