You can easily argue that AOT is a mecha anime, just with flesh suits instead of robots. With that in mind, you can't miss with this classic show that goes with traditional robot mechs and balances awesome action with breathtaking storytelling - just like AOT.

In Code Geass, you're introduced to a world where the tyrannical Holy Empire of Britannia has overtaken Japan. But, hope isn't lost for the country (renamed Area 11), as a prince from the empire gains the power to control others and leads a rebellion.

The first thing you'll notice about this anime is that the technology and action are pretty awesome. It's easy to get sucked into the adrenaline and visuals of the series, as there's a glossiness that makes it look slick and stylish. However, there's so much more to it than that.

Code Geass is a very smart show. The characters are fascinating, especially the lead figure, Lelouch. He has a level of intelligence that proves a strategic mind can be just as powerful as strength - imagine Armin if he were a tad more badass. It also puts a lot of faith in you, making it a very rewarding series.
