15 Best Animated TV Moments Of 2018
3. The Simpsons - Marge Burns Helen
Those who haven’t been watching The Simpsons recently might be surprised to see an entry from the old classic so high on the list. Make no mistake; current Simpsons episodes are a tiny shadow of their former selves.
But in Werking Mom, there was a return to form (of sorts). It was no Marge Vs The Monorail, but it was a decent episode nonetheless. Written by Carolyn Omine and Robin Sayers, Omine has been responsible for a lot of the most recent seasons’ best efforts. Looking For Goodbart, Blazed And Confused and the fantastic Halloween Of Horror all came from Omine. For what it’s worth, this was Sayers’ debut.
Omine’s writing tends more towards storytelling than jokes, but in Werking Mom she had Marge deliver an absolute zinger to Helen. After gaining her confidence through working with drag queens, Marge finally has a retort for all of Helen’s cattiness.
When Helen comes up to Marge for another one of her poorly disguised put downs, Marge replies with one of the best lines The Simpsons have had for years: ‘Why are you so bitter Helen? Is it because your husband would rather play with his trains than with you? All aboard! Not Helen!’.
