6. Peep Show
Channel 4Lets face it, a persons inner thoughts are usually far more interesting than any they are willing to put on display for the public eye. How many times has your mind said oh God, it's him again,
please dont approach me, yet what comes out of your mouth is more along the lines of Hey! Great to see you! Well, Peep Show perfectly plays on that notion by allowing the viewers to hear both the repressed, more honest subconscious of a character as well as their filtered spoken words. Not only does the show expose its characters authentic feelings, the camera shots are also intelligently designed to appear through the eye of the individual - therefore, we see everything as the main characters do, going as far as in make-out scenes the unfortunate love interest is forced to play tonsil-tennis with the corner of a camera! The concept is exceptionally imaginative and the characters are highly entertaining, with a plot based around a dysfunctional friendship that has seemingly stayed strong for over a decade regardless of frequent differences. Mark Corrigan and Jeremy Usbourne are flatmates in their late twenties/early thirties that have held a bond since their days at Dartmouth University. Mark is an intelligent history-buff that is usually socially awkward, while Jeremy is disorganised and frequently unemployed, but still somehow manages to seduce tons of extremely attractive women.
