10. The Outsider

Readers of a certain vintage (i.e those of you born before Space Jam was released on VHS) will recall that the nineties was the heyday of prolific horror author Stephen King's many, many TV adaptations.

After all, this was the decade which brought us the small screen spectacle of Tim Curry "wuh-hey"-ing his way through the original IT miniseries, as well as The Tommyknockers, The Langoliers, and (shudder) the flawed Mick Garris adaptation of The Shining,

Now admittedly, nothing in The Outsider is as memorably odd as those inconsistent series. But this slow burn mystery miniseries nonetheless harkens back to the best of the author's TV adaptations whilst offering a dark, disturbing story all of its own, starring a fantastic Jason Bateman as the troubled protagonist of this twisty tale.

Far from the simple True Detective style procedural it initially appears, this show follows a routine (if macabre) murder investigation of some poor sprog which soon turns strange and supernatural.
