15 Doctor Who Actors Who Died In 2020

9. Philip Latham

Philip Latham had one role in the Doctor Who world, but it was certainly a biggie.

The actor played President Borusa in the 1983 special The Five Doctors, which was commissioned in celebration of the show's 20th anniversary. As the ruler of Gallifrey, Borusa had a large amount of power at his fingertips, and the episode saw him putting that power to not-so-good use as he pursued the secrets of immortality.

In the end, Borusa secures this immortality - or rather, a twisted version of it - when he's tricked by Rassilon and frozen in stone.

Latham was terrific in the role, and when many Doctor Who fans picture Borusa, they picture Latham's incarnation. He passed away on 20 June, aged 91.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
