Sticking within the Whoniverse but moving away from the main show, Richard Gilliland had a minor role in the fourth series of Torchwood.

In the episode Dead Of Night, his character - Congressman Patrick Morganthall - represents the shady company PhiCorp, and delivers a speech declaring that he intends to make all prescription drugs available without a prescription.

This, of course, was in the wake of Miracle Day - an event wherein all human beings simply stopped dying.

Gilliland doesn't have much material to work with here, but he's superb in the minute or so he appears onscreen. You might also recognise him from the host of other famous shows he's starred in, such as 24, Desperate Housewives, Dexter, and Murder She Wrote.

He passed away on 18 March, at 71 years of age.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
