Menzies played the scheming and suspicious Lieutentant Stepashin in Doctor Who Series 7 episode Cold War which reintroduced classic foes the Ice Warriors to the Whoniverse. Stepashin never quite got to grips with the gravity of what was attacking the submarine he was stationed on, believing the Ice Warrior was a western construct rather than a threat from outer space. He made the rookie mistake of attacking the Ice Warrior, which by its code of conduct meant he had declared war on the creatures from Mars, and then made an even worse error when he informed it all about the cold war and mutually-assured destruction whilst trying to plead for his life. He plays Edmure Tully in Thrones, Catelyn Stark's brother and Robb Stark's uncle, and heir to Riverrun. He's a relatively poor tactician and soldier but is good-hearted and (eventually) willing to help make up for his nephew's mistakes by agreeing to marry one of Walder Frey's family. Unfortunately, this proves to be an even greater mistake as Edmure's wedding becomes the infamous Red Wedding, which sees the Starks butchered and Edmure as a captive of the Freys.
