15 Mind-Blowing Facts About Supergirl You Need To Know

11. A Clone Took Over Her Series For More Than A Decade

Following Supergirl's removal from the DC Universe as part of the Crisis on Infinity Earths storyline, the character didn't reappear for over 14 years. However, in 2002, a new Supergirl was created by an alternate reality Lex Luthor. In that world, Clark Kent died as a child, and this good guy version of Lex created Supergirl with the appearance and memories of his lost love Lana Lang. Possessing all the powers of Superman (who Lex had seen by looking through a gateway into the regular DC Universe), this Supergirl also had shapeshifting, telekinesis, and cloaking abilities. After arriving in the DC Universe proper, the hero became involved in a number of key stories, including The Death of Superman. However, here's where things get really weird. In a bid to make this new Supergirl like the one they had erased from reality years earlier, DC had her merge with a young dying girl called Linda Danvers, sacrificing her life to save her, but thereby giving the clone a soul and creating a new angelic Supergirl. This version of the character - who became knowns as Matrix - was later wiped from continuity, though she stuck around for quite some time before that happened.
