15 Times S**t Got Real In Game Of Thrones

10. Jaime's Mad King Monologue

Red Wedding Game Of Thrones
HBO

Ever since Season One we'd gotten used to hating the guts of the Kingslayer. From pushing little Bran out of a window to attacking Ned Stark in the street, Jaime Lannister had earned our distain. There were moments peppered throughout the seasons though where Jaime exhibited more human traits, normally with Tyrion, and there were a couple of times that really made fans wonder about the night the Mad King died.

Robert Baratheon got a bitter taste of that awful night when he forced Jaime to divulge the King's last words. The room was silenced but we moved on, and there certainly wasn't enough to go on to change our minds about Jaime.

After losing his hand he had already moved away from solid villain territory and when confronted with the same distasteful 'Kingslayer' look one more time by the honourable Brienne, we were given a history lesson that we'd never forget.

Jaime takes us all to task for our judgement of his actions, not taking the moral high ground as much as denying its existence. A great scene that gave us all pause. Displacing the normal checks and balanced morality of television without offering an alternative made us very uncomfortable and uncertain about our opinions going forward.

"By what right does the wolf judge the lion?"
