2. The Orville

From creator Seth McFarlane, best known for Family Guy and American Dad, comes The Orville, a lovingly crafted Star Trek homage that takes much of its queues from classic series' like The Next Generation.

The show follows the exploits of the crew of the titular starship as it traverses the galaxy. It's a sitcom that uses homage, parody and satire to get some big laughs but it's the creator's clear love for the subject matter that makes The Orville so watchable.

Now that Discovery and Picard have rewritten the Star Trek rulebook with their action-oriented storylines, it's telling that what's essentially a parody is now the best new version of Star Trek available.

An essential watch for jaded Trek fans.
