15 Upcoming New HBO TV Shows To Be Excited About

2. Lovecraft Country

Get Out Jordan Peele
Universal Pictures

Another collaboration between HBO and Bad Robot, Lovecraft Country sees Jordan Peele returning to his TV roots after the smash success of Get Out.

Based on the 2016 book by Matt Ruff, Lovecraft Country follows Atticus Black (who'll be played by White Boy Rick's Jonathan Majors) on a road trip across Jim Crow-era America in an effort to find his missing father, battling the very human racist terrors of the time, but also the Lovecraftian spirits that inspired its title.

The book was critically acclaimed, especially for mixing together horror with its tackling of racial issues, which is something Get Out did brilliantly too, so Peele should be on solid footing here. It'll be overseen by Misha Green (Underground), and it's been described as a horror anthology that aims to reclaim genre storytelling from an African-American perspective.
