16 Perfect Superhero TV Show Casting Choices That Nailed Their Characters

8. Elden Henson - Foggy Nelson (Daredevil)

Daredevil Season 2 Trailer Foggy Nelson
Netflix

For a supporting character, Foggy Nelson is an instrumental part of the Daredevil mythos. Much like Ben Urich, Nelson is one of the most layered and complex characters to have featured in a Daredevil comic book, let alone the Marvel Universe itself. For such a complex character then, an equally complex performance must be called for.

Enter Elden Henson, who is undeniably one of the very best things about Netflix's adaptation of the Daredevil mythos. As Matt Murdock's fellow avocado at law, Foggy was always going to factor in a big way into Daredevil's actions. He's a human voice, a comedic foil and a hero all in one, and he's most definitely one of the show's best aspects.

Of course, pretty much all of the cast involved in Daredevil offer extremely faithful portrayals of their characters, but there's something particularly special about Henson's performance. There's an undeniable chemistry shared between Henson and his main onscreen counterpart, Charlie Cox, with actor's comedic timing in particular greatly aiding his character's likability. Not only that, but the way in which Foggy can switch from his comedic 'Foggy Bear' persona, to a hard as nails no nonsense voice of reason, in an instant, is superb. His tirades are always a joy to watch, but it's hard to imagine them being conveyed as convincingly by anyone other than Henson.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
