17 Visually Stunning TV Opening Credits
16. United States of Tara

It can be hard to get across larger-than-life personalities in
about a minute. The short-lived Freaks and Geeks does a pretty stand-out job with the cast having their high-school photographs taken. Yet what
if your main cast comprises of just one actor?
Toni Colette plays a middle-aged woman and artist suffering from dissociative identity disorder. The opening credits appear as one of Tara’s pop-up books, capturing each of Tara’s personalities, or ‘alters’, in detailed vignettes. From beer-guzzling Buck to the rebellious teenage T, the camera flies through the book’s glossy pages before finally settling on the real Tara’s face.
The show only ran for three seasons, yet Colette won an Emmy for her performance, with the opening title sequence also winning a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Design.
