19 Things That Almost Completely Changed Game Of Thrones
7. Tyrion Would Have Been More Powerful (And Would Have Toppled King Joffrey)
Rather than being Joffrey's eventual whipping boy, Tyrion would have had the satisfaction of toppling the malevolent boy king from his perch on the Iron Throne. According to the original outline, Tyrion would have been considerably more powerful - hence his battling alongside Jaime against the Starks initially - and would have been able to remove Joffrey from the throne out of disgust for his amoral behaviour and brutality (the spirit of which plotting remained in the book and show). That would rather unwittingly have opened the doors on Tyrion's own exile, as Jaime claimed the throne for himself and betrayed his brother. Was It A Good Change? Definitely, as it would clearly have meant less for Littlefinger to do, and while it might have been more satisfying to see Tyrion actually get one over on Joffrey by removing him from the Throne, it is far more compelling to see the Imp exiled for something he didn't actually do and have him come back like a wounded animal.
