19 Things That Almost Completely Changed Game Of Thrones

6. Sansa And King Joffrey Would Have Got Married And Had A Child

In the show, Sansa was at least partly to blame for her own treatment at King Joffrey's hand: she was infatuated with the idea of being a princess and a queen long before she got to know him, and when she eventually learned of his cruelty she still chose to have faith in the draw of becoming queen and betrayed her family. In the original book, Sansa's betrayal would have been more pronounced - she would have been Martin's "member of dubious loyalty" (something he planned for each of the families) for the Stark clan, and she would have both married Joffrey and given him an heir. At that point, when push came to shove, she would have chosen her husband and child over her family, which would have come back to haunt her later. Was It A Good Change? The betrayal remained - though thankfully to a lesser extent to preserve Sansa's foolish naivety a little more sympathetically - but the idea of her actually getting married and giving birth is less interesting than having her toyed with and cast off by Joffrey.
