2 Ups And 7 Downs From Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3.7 — What Is Starfleet?

4. UP — A Visual Angle

Star Trek Strange New Worlds What Is Starfleet Jikaru Lutani Warship

This is not a nod to the cameras in every console, and on every armrest, nor is it an UP for What Is Starfleet?'s stylistic approach to the documentary genre (more on that in a moment). It is an UP for the visuals of the episode in general, including the design and make-up of new species the Lutani within it. Their warship was also a highlight, as close in appearance to a classic studio model as we've seen in a long, long time.

The whole Jikaru plot might not have made much sense, but we can't complain about the look of the creature itself. The view of the Jikaru emerging from the ocean on Tychus B was spectacular. The shots from the crew lounge as it made its final way to the local star were hauntingly beautiful. It is hard not to be affected by the death of elegance and grace corrupted, even if it is made of pixels.
