Stephen (sometimes referred to as Chris) and Linda Stotch are a constant source of amusement due to their consistent punishment of their son, Butters.
Despite having one of the most well behaved and obedient children in town, Butters Parents react with outrage to his every move, at one point even scolding him for pulling a ridiculous face in a school photograph that was actually only "ruined" by a stray hair.
The pair go to such great lengths in their best episode, which features the two of them trying to cover up Linda's attempted murder of their son, that fans cannot help but appreciate their efforts and subsequently love them as characters on their own. Perhaps they remind fans of their own parents attempts to scold them at times when it actually seems pretty unnecessary, after all, we've all been in the situation of choosing not to be disobedient and it well and truly biting us in the arse any way.
