With the end of Season 2 and first-half of Season 3, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has gone to some very dark places in 2017, and yet somehow manages to balance that while retaining its offbeat humour, charm, and show tunes.

While the show started with things looking up for Rebecca Bunch, this year has sent her on a downward spiral. It once again takes a refreshingly honest and open look at mental health and the stigma surrounding it, mining the topic for some big emotional and dramatic beats, but also ensuring to see funny sides where possible too and, most importantly, having a real discussion about it.

The songs are still the kind you'll want to sing-along to, and the performances are all top-notch: Rachel Bloom pulls off everything and then some as Rebecca in a difficult performance full of nuance, and shares a great chemistry with her castmates (Donna Lynne Champlin and Scott Michael Foster especially).

It goes to some very tough places this year, in particular during Season 3, but it does so in ways that are clever, funny, full of poignancy, and always make you invested in the show and its characters.
