Christian Slater's character, Vance Maximus, is a member of the intergalactic superteam, The Vindicators. At first, the renegade starsoldier comes across as a charming rogue with his team's best interest at heart, which is why Morty is so happy when he's allowed to join the team.

But after The Vindicators get sealed in a room, Vance goes berserk, revealing that he's a neurotic jerk who only cares about his public persona. He dies immediately after showing his true self, giving Morty just enough time to see how phoney The Vindicators are. Similar to his character in Mr Robot, Slater is excellent at portraying two very different sides to one character and flipping from one to another in an instant.
