20 Easter Eggs You Didn't Notice In American Horror Story

12. The School Shooting Date Is Important

Besides the doofy Red Sox allusions, there's a lot more to Tate's killing spree in season one. Steph later reveals that, during the shooting, Tate put a gun to her head and asked if she believed in God. When she replied in the affirmative, he killed her. That's based on rumours that one of the teens who committed the Columbine massacre did the same. Along with the unfortunate history for school shootings in the United States, the massacre scenes have another important historical significance. The specific day of Tate going on his rampage as given as April 5, 1994 €“ the very same day that Kurt Cobain, singer of grunge band Nirvana, killed himself. Being a disaffected youth in the nineties, Tate was likely a fan of the band. In fact, Nirvana nods follow each of Evan Peters' characters through American Horror Story. Besides that morbid Easter Egg, he also sings the band's song €œCome As You Are€ in the season four episode €œTest Of Strength€ in the guise of Freak Show member Jimmy Darling.
