What it's about: That's all a little intense. How about we settle back into some actual, no-frills comedy? Well, maybe with a few frills, if you can abide that sort of thing. Anthony Anderson's third attempt at a network sitcom - after the swiftly canned All About The Andersons and Guy With kids - goes for a high concept twist on the usual dysfunctional family comedy as Forever tries for something more interesting with the standard police procedural. Black-ish isn't just about Anderson's Andre "Dre" Johnson and the squabbles he has with his wife, dad and 2.5 children, it's about the fear of black suburban families that they've become so integrated in white America that they've lost sight of their cultural heritage. At least that's the fear of Dre, who sets about trying to teach his kids about their history. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2oHMze7RwY Why it looks good: Despite his iffy history when it comes to his own sitcoms, Anderson's definitely got comedic chops, stealing his scenes in The Bernie Mac Show, The Shield, and, ahem, Kangaroo Jack. The guy's talented, as is the rest of the cast; especially of note are Tracee Ellis Ross, who plays his wife, and the surprise guest appearances Laurence Fishburne as pops. Yes, that Laurence Fishburne. Morpheus is going to be a regular in a sitcom. And it looks like he's going to be pretty darn good at it, from the looks of the trailers, which also suggests the show has the same sort of sharp, witty humour and warm feel as the likes of Modern Family. Only, y'know, with Morpheus in it.
