The Walking Dead has always pushed the limits of what can be acceptably portrayed on prime time TV, but the finale to season four features some of the most emotionally distressing scenes depicted yet on the show. From the horrific fate that almost befalls Carl to the cliffhanger ending, the tension is kept up throughout.

Flashbacks are also used to great effect here, enhancing the story with new appearances from old favorites. Nothing beats that final speech from Rick though, which left fans eagerly looking to the future, desperate to see how everyone's favorite survivors escape their confinement.
