It should go without saying that this entry will have speculative spoilers. The content won't come as a surprise to many people, but if you want to keep everything totally fresh then look away now. OK, so now the spoilerphobes are gone let's get into the most exciting piece of Thrones trivia. As already discussed, a HBO series wasn't the first time Martin was approached about adapting his series to the screen - clearly he wasn't just going to hand the rights to his life's work over to anyone. So he decided to test would-be show-runners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss on their understanding of the source material with an exciting question - "who is Jon Snow's mother?" They answered in a satisfactory manner and, in their eyes, that moment served as the point when Martin got fully on board with the idea. The mystery of Jon Snow's parentage has been an enduring question propagated primarily by the fans themselves, so it's naturally reassuring to hear the creator himself directly reference it. But, on a more practical level, it appears that, as the answer that Benioff and Weiss gave was the truth (or close to it), it's a solvable problem. Are you excited for Season 5?
