20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About Lost
9. Ilana Was Killed Because They Gave Up On Her Reveal
When Caesar, the leader of the Ajira 316 survivors, was killed, most people in the know immediately saw it as the writers making up for not killing Jack in the pilot. The parallels with what almost could have been were furthered when Ilana, a spunky, directional version of Kate, took over.
In the end, this new determined lead ended up being killed rather ignominiously; in the memory of Leslie Arzt, she is suddenly blown up with aged dynamite. Like many supporting characters introduced in later seasons (Daniel, Charlotte, Zoe) it seemed like the writers had just offed a character when they ceased to be relevant, but here there was a reason for her long build up.
Ilana was meant to be Jacob's daughter, but the reveal has to be cut to keep focus on the main plot. So rather than being killed out of laziness, Ilana bought it because, like with Libby, there just wasn't the time.
