11. No One In Gridlock Ever Thinks Of Just Breaking Out, Do They?
Let's stick with Series 3 of NuWho and take a look at the episode Gridlock. There's a really odd thing about this story, and that odd thing is that there's a moment that should happen but doesn't. Actually, that moment should have happened time and time again to countless people on New Earth long before the Doctor arrives. It's the moment when each driver realises that help isn't actually going to come and he should use his flying car to break out of the enclosed Motorway. It's just barmy that not one driver thought of trying it. Even if the attempts to escape wouldn't work or the fleeing drivers die on the outside, hundreds of drivers should have tried it. In the real world, of course, most people would decide to try anything to get out after only a day trapped in a traffic jam. Possibly, much sooner than that.
