20 Most Hotly Anticipated New TV Shows Of 2022
3. The Last Of Us
Beyond Halo, the other great hope for video game adaptations is HBO's take on Naughty Dog's masterful post-apocalyptic action game The Last of Us.
With the game's immense popularity and ground-breaking cinematic storytelling, it should translate into a TV series format pretty comfortably, and with the show being co-developed by Chernobyl's Craig Mazin and The Last of Us' creator Neil Druckman, it's easy to be optimistic.
Better still, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey have been quite perfectly cast as Joel and Ellie, while the supporting cast includes Gabriel Luna, Anna Torv, and Nick Offerman.
HBO is the perfect home for a show like this, ensuring it'll be able to push the boundaries of violence and visceral, emotionally-charged storytelling unimpeded.
As the largest TV production in Canadian history, there's clearly a lot invested in this, and with the 10-episode season taking roughly a year to film, clearly a great deal of care is being taken to get it right.
The Last of Us will premiere on HBO sometime in 2022, most likely in the last few months of the year.
