6. High Commander Winslow - The Handmaid's Tale
The Handmaid's Tale is packed with traumatic experiences which its characters are forced to undergo, but High Commander Winslow's death at the hands of protagonist June Osborne is one of the very few that is actually cathartic.
High up in Gilead's heirarchy, Winslow may well be one of the architects of the regime's brutal system of oppression and repopulation through forced pregnancy. He gets more than he bargained for, however, when he runs into June in a brothel and invites her to his suite.
Upon his attempt to rape her, June fights back, stabbing him repeatedly with a pen. She then approaches holding a statue above her head and, ignoring her pleas for mercy for the sake of his children, she bashes his head in and the audience cheers.
