11. Scorpion - Star Trek Voyager

The end of Voyager's third season kicked up the pace considerably with the introduction of the Borg as a major presence in the show, along with the threat of Species 8472 and of course everybody's favourite drone, Seven of Nine. The first real sense of conflict between Janeway and Chakotay appeared over her stance on trusting the Borg and they begin to show their cracks.

The show was always centred on the journey to get home and no one, bar Harry Kim, was more obsessed with getting the crew home than Janeway. Her idea to align with the Borg initially seems like madness, with everything that Starfleet had come to know about the Collective. However, despite being vastly outmatched by the Borg, Voyager manages to not only survive the conflict with Species 8472 but gains a new crew member.

Voyager's fourth season saw a rapid increase in the quality of the episodes that were being produced and while not every episode featured Seven heavily, her introduction spurred the writers on into creating plotlines that would run on through the show and raise the bar for the rest of the crew.

Several characters certainly benefitted more than others and some began to slip by the wayside, but Scorpion remains one of the stand out entries into the canon for changing the way the Borg were viewed, for bring Voyager a much needed new lease of life and for giving Jeri Ryan to the franchise to boot
