Credited with bringing high fantasy fiction to the attention of mainstream audiences, Game Of Thrones has reached levels of popularity that would put One Direction to shame.

With the meat of the TV series taking place on the fictional continent of Westeros, the adaptation of George R. R. Martin's novels deals with all the political schemes, medieval warfare and assassination attempts one would expect of a period drama.

Setting Game Of Thrones apart from its contemporaries though is excellent characterisation, supernatural elements and a universe that juggles more plot elements than a circus act.
