19. Normal People

An adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel of the same name for Hulu and BBC Three, Normal People follows a young mismatched Irish couple and the ups, downs and massive pitfalls of their relationship through school and college.

It’s not exactly a winning high concept, but Rooney’s novel is a remarkable, award-winning work of fiction, and given that she’s involved in the writing of the show alongside Alice Birch and Mark O’Rowe, anticipation for the adaptation is high.

Starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal and directed by Lenny Abrahamson and Hettie Macdonald, Normal People should debut on Hulu late in 2020 and seems set to be one of those shows that everyone is talking about.
