30 Greatest Doctor Who Episodes Of The Revived Series
17. The Waters Of Mars
While it could have just been a potboiler episode to keep things cooking until the Tenth Doctor's big showdown, David Tennant's penultimate story is perhaps even better than his last. Much like The Fires of Pompeii before it, The Waters of Mars looks at a tragedy that can't be prevented due to it being a fixed point in time. Yet, unlike that other episode, here fans have a broken Doctor who is keen to do anything to prevent his upcoming death, ready even to play fast and loose with the laws of time. For taking the Doctor to a new place for the character, and not to mention featuring Russell T Davies' creepiest monster, the Flood, this special is a watermark Doctor Who episode. Pun absolutely intended.
