In Series 5, romcom master Richard Curtis turned his hand to the TARDIS to give us this stirring tale of the time Vincent Van Gogh met the Doctor. While there is a monster (the chicken-like Krafayis), for once the emphasis of this Doctor Who episode is on one brilliant man's struggle to control his inner demons rather than stopping an alien menace, as the story intelligently tells its family audience of the ups and downs of depression before leaving them with perhaps the Doctor's most inspirational quote to date. A very mature episode of the series and one to show people (if there is anyone who still thinks that way) to prove that Doctor Who is not just a silly kids' show.
