30 Greatest TV Sitcoms Of All Time
2. M*A*S*H
Centred on the staff of the Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War, MASH sees the characters take the trauma, high stakes and inescapable danger of their situation and combat it with the power of laughter.
Spending their days playing practical jokes on each other and engaging in off-hours feuds, the members of the hospital get by with each others company despite the things that they have to deal with on the day-to-day.
Though many episodes lean into dark comedy and feature a wide range of recurring jokes and funny character interactions, the show often delved into some more dramatic and serious territory, and subtly mocked America's involvement in world conflicts and the futility of war.
Airing between 1972 and 1983, MASH developed a number of spin-offs thanks to its longevity, intelligent humour and timeless characters, and the series finale is still widely regarded as one of the greatest episodes of TV ever aired.
Thanks to the acting talent of Alan Alda, Gary Burghoff and Loretta Swit and the iconic theme song ("Suicide is Painless"), MASH will forever stand as one of TV's best series.
