4 Ups & 3 Downs From Doctor Who Series 12 - Spyfall Part 2

Does Spyfall Part 2 live up to the hype of Spyfall Part 1?

Last week's Spyfall saw Doctor Who Series 12 off with a bang. An engrossing story, excellent balance between the ensemble cast, and one hell of a twist involving a brand new Master, could the second part answer all the questions raised by the first, and can it live up to the mind-blowing hype that was brought to our screens on New Year's day?

After the incredible surprise reveal of Sacha Dhawan's Master, fans were hungry to find out more about this new incarnation of the renegade Time Lord, and how on Earth Team TARDIS would escape their current scrapes by the credits of Part 1. Does Spyfall Part 2 deliver? Let's find out.

As always, we start with the Downs.

An incredibly strong up from Spyfall Part 1 was that Graham, Yaz, and Ryan all felt wholly relevant and had equal-footing in both screen time and contributing to the progression of the plot. In Part 2 however, they're much less useful. After escaping the crashing plane by landing it using an app- yes, you heard me right, the trio wander aimlessly around Britain, simply running a useless parallel to The Doctor and The Master's quarrel.

Nothing they do during this episode contributes to the continuation of the plot, they're simply along for the ride like they were multiple times during Series 11. It would have been difficult to tie them into the ongoing duologue between The Doctor and Master, but it's still a shame that they could've been completely absent from Part 2 and the outcome of the episode wouldn't have changed.
