5 Most Disturbing British TV Comedies

4. Jam

If you're going to watch the controversial Jam, do not do so with the lights off when you're home alone. At every turn, Chris Morris and co seem to be going out of their not so merry way to mess with our heads. This disquieting comedy features bleak, dream-like sketches about suicide, sociopathic GPs and trading sexual favours for houses €“ all played out over ambient music. Jam is rarely seen to bother with convention. There is no title sequence; instead Morris introduces the show with a twisted and tangential tale which chills and baffles in equal measures, but ultimately does little to prepare the viewer for what lies ahead. It makes for an uncomfortable experience, pushing you out of your comfort zone in every sense - but some might agree that it is Morris' most artistic work to date. Despite only running for one series, this beautifully vulgar show is today considered highly influential, and remembered as a horror as much as it is a comedy.
