5 Game Of Thrones Characters You’ll Like Much Better On A Rewatch (And 1 You’ll Like Less)
2. The Sand Snakes
Ask any Thrones fan to name their least favourite character, and chances are they’ll either say a villain they’re supposed to hate, or they’ll say the Sand Snakes. On a first watch, you can understand the reasoning behind that.
Considering the popularity of Bronn and Jaime, coupled with Oberyn’s successful season-long cameo, the Dorne plot should’ve been a huge hit. It had conspiracy, intrigue and new exotic locales. It even ended on a double twist, with Myrcella confessing she always knew Jaime was her father, then dying in his arms.
Despite what it should be been, it was instead a slow, irritating, atonal mess. And the Sand Snakes, as the only new characters of lasting importance, have been thoroughly tarred with this brush.
The second time around though, you’re not expecting anything at all from the Dornish plot, just tapping your feet impatiently and waiting for Jaime to return to King’s Landing. That’s when the Sand Snakes surprise you. Yes, two of them are a little too similar to each other (dagger girl and spear girl), but there is some humour in their interactions. Their fighting style has depth as well, with the aforementioned dagger and spear being joined by a whip.
