5 Game Of Thrones Characters You’ll Like Much Better On A Rewatch (And 1 You’ll Like Less)

1. Alliser Thorne

Game Of Thrones Joffrey
HBO

Alliser Thorne is the hero of the story in another universe. It’s overlooked because of Jon’s relationships with Ygritte, Mance and Tormund, but for many in the North, the wildlings are the biggest enemies of the lot.

The Jon story cast him as a villain, but he truly believed in the cause at The Wall. He doesn’t act the way he does because he hates Jon, he does it because he can’t stand anything that weakens Castle Black. When Jon is elected ahead of him, he’s angry but never even tries to rebel. He only lost by one vote, he could easily have made life difficult for Jon. Instead, he supports Jon’s decision to chop off Janos Slynt’s head for refusing an order.

He never puts selfish motives ahead of the Night’s Watch during any battle either, and clearly gains respect for the likes of Grenn who just keep their head down and follow orders. Even in death, he admits he’d do it all again. By Thorne and many other crows’ definition, Jon was a traitor to The Wall. On a rewatch, Thorne can be viewed through a much more sympathetic lens.
