1. You'll Better Appreciate The Show's Fifty Year History
How many TV shows have the distinction of boasting that they are still on the air fifty years after the series premiere? How many shows can boast a worldwide fanbase that only gets larger with each passing year? How many shows can change the lead actor every three or four years and still claim it's the same character (and have the audience believe it)? Doctor Who captured the imagination in a way no one really anticipated, and it continues to enthrall audiences on such a massive scale that it's difficult to find someone who has not at least heard of Doctor Who, if not watched at least one episode. Why the massive appeal? It carries us away from our humdrum lives and shows us wonders that could only exist in a world as impossible yet believable as the one the Doctor inhabits. More importantly, though, it shows us the potential for goodness and greatness that all people possess and inspires us to become something more. And it all began in a junkyard on Totter's Lane on November 23, 1963.
