5 Reasons To Watch Classic Doctor Who

2. The Companions Are Awesome

Doctor Who Ace These days everyone loves to talk about who is the best companion. But interestingly enough, very few of the classic era companions are ever mentioned in these discussions; it's all Rose or Donna or Amy. Don't get me wrong now--the modern era companions have been strong characters (more or less), but it's a shame to overlook the companions from the classic series; they're every bit as awesome as the ones we have now. It was the classic series that introduced us to Jamie Macrimmon, the consummate Scotsman who roamed time and space in his kilt, and to Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, the UNIT soldier whose daughter Kate assisted the Doctor in The Power of Three. Other notable companions include Zoe Heriot, the girl genius whose intellect rivaled the Doctor's, Leela, a hunter of the tribe of Sevateem who was awfully good with a knife, and Ace, a teenage girl with a penchant for carrying homemade bombs in her backpack. But this is only a small sampling of the various companions who have joined the Doctor on his travels, ordinary people he showed how to be extraordinary.
