5 Reasons TV Has Never Been Better And 5 Reasons It's Doomed

4. The Demise Of The Soap Opera

generalhospital_22_6x3 This one may seem silly but hear me out. Soap operas are a lot of things and for most that have ever aired, quality fictional story telling was not among their strong suits. The catch is, as they've failed and most have been canceled they've been replaced by insipid talk shows. If there is anything worse than a cheesy soap opera, it's a daytime talk show. Things are getting spread so thin that the likes of Steve Harvey, Jeff Probst, and even Wendy Williams have all received their own day time talk shows. This is crazy. Let€™s look closer at soap operas and for the sake of space we'll focus on one that is still on the air, General Hospital. The inventiveness found in the story arcs we're fed is unrivaled anywhere else on television. The talent working behind the cameras and in front is grossly underrated. There are some big celebrities now that got their start in soap operas. Taking a look at the writers who have to devise of all these crazy stories for us to follow and the fact that they have to fill five hours a week for almost the entire year, you start to gain a bit of respect for all the hard work that goes into creating these shows that are being tossed aside in favor of some generic, brain dead talk show.

I'm married and live in New York with my wife and pets. I'm a writer and definitely not a comedian (just ask my wife). I've successfully linked my twitter, goodreads, facebook and google+ pages although the successful aspect of all that is up for debate. I also started my own blog on wordpress and have just finished my first novel, The Violent Winds. Now it's time to try and trick some unsuspecting fool into buying it.
