3. The Sharpest Comedies Still Going Unnoticed
Broadcast network comedy really gets to me. I don't understand how certain shows garner so much attention while far sharper comedies struggle to stay on the air. For all the strides audiences seem to be making, most of that is with regards to drama. Comedy still has a way to go in gaining the adoration of larger crowds. For my money, Arrested Development is the best comedy of all time and yes, I rank it higher than Seinfeld(which I also love). The only reason it was renewed for a second season is due to it winning the Emmy award for best comedy that year. It was canceled after it's third low rated season and until Netflix just recently resurrected it, remained a black mark for tv quality. Very little has changed in it's wake. Perhaps, the sharpest comedy in AD's wake is NBC's Community. This show, despite consistently being the most wildly inventive comedy on television, has been on the verge of cancellation every single season. All I can say is: Please watch this show. Another show that should be viewed by more people and also on NBC is Parks And Recreation. Hands down, the most consistently well written show on television has struggled since its inception to find an audience. Why? Why do people insist on drinking the CBS comedy Kool Aid instead? How did a show like According To Jim get nine seasons when far greater shows struggle so mightily for one third of that run time? Attention TV Viewers: You're so close!
