5 Things We NEED From Christopher Eccleston's Doctor Who Return
4. Explore The Weight Of The Time War
The Time War is probably the largest event to happen in the Whoniverse, and when the Doctor returned to our screens, he told us he was now the “Last of the Time Lords”. The reason for this fact was unravelled over the following years, coming to its climax in the fiftieth anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor. However, we learn what the Doctor thinks happened at the end of the Time War, and what he has had to live with, having used the moment to wipe out all the Time Lords and Daleks to end the war, was actually false. But in the 2005 era, this is a man who is now more alone than he has ever been.
This is something we see toll on the Doctor’s mind a few times during series one. On several occasions such as his speech with Rose at the end of the second episode, or his reunion with the Dalek, the Time War, for obvious reasons has had a big impact upon the Doctor.
At this point in his life, the Doctor believes he has wiped out his own people, something which isn’t exactly going to be the easiest idea to cope with. This is something Big Finish should really explore.
No matter when in the Ninth Doctor’s life they set these adventures, a theme that should be explored is the fact that this is the first incarnation to once again call himself the Doctor. The Time War will obviously leave scars, so now fifteen years later, with all this development, why not fill in the gaps of this incarnation.
