4. Defendant: Buffy Anne Summers

It has been over a decade since terrorist Buffy Anne Summers destroyed the Californian town of Sunnydale with an unidentified weapon of mass destruction. Final casualties were never fully documented due to a mass evacuation of the town in the days prior to the explosion. At the time, Buffy Summers had been linked a string of 'incidents' dating back seven years, including the Graduation Day massacre of 1999, in which Mayor Richard Wilkins was killed and the destruction of a government facility a year later, where a large number of military personnel lost their lives. Poor Buffy, she saved the world a lot but to the public, would the destruction of Sunnydale really go unnoticed? What else could the US government class the events of the final episode Chosen, other than a mass bombing? Clearly in the end, the escaping inhabitants of Sunnydale were more clued up to the supernatural shenanigans and Buffy would have been clear and centre of it all. A few stray comments by the survivors and the vampire slayer that protected them all would become suspect number one. Her stories continue in comic book form, but for those who left her story with the TV show, the destruction of Sunnydale has to be the biggest and most public consequence of her heroic actions. Let's hope she can evade the authorities long enough to keep saving the world. Wherever the slayer and her Scoobies are eleven years on...
