6 Times Louis Theroux Put Himself In Danger To Get A Story
2. The Ultra Zionists (2011)
In the 2011 documentary The Ultra Zionists, Theroux explored the highly contentious issue of Isreali expansion in the West Bank area, focusing on a number of Jewish settlers who were attempting to settle in highly-contested areas despite it been declared illegal by Isreali authorities.
The programme sees Louis put himself in several dangerous situations due to the religious and political tensions in the area but none more so then when he travels to the Palestinian village of Nabi Saleh where weekly protests against the Isreali Occupation take place.
Theroux interviews those on both sides of the conflict, including several Palestinian protesters and soldiers from the Isreali Defense Forces.
Later, word spread that a Palestinian youth was being arrested and hostility on both sides of the protest began to increase. A particularly poignant moment was captured when the soldiers from the IDF were attempting to wrestle a man away from his family so he couldn be arrested while Louis looked on.
The hostilities continue at an increased rate at this point, with Palestinian youths throwing stones at the soldiers who retaliated with a volley of tear gas being fired towards the protesters.
Theroux would again find himself in the heart of the conflict later in the programme when reports of a Palestinian being shot dead led to rioting in East Jerusalem with Louis getting caught in the crossfire after inhaling teargas intended to disperse the protests.
