6 Ways Rick Grimes Could Leave The Walking Dead

2. Death By Negan

Of course, when we're discussing all the possible ways Rick Grimes could bite the dust, we can't not mention The Walking Dead's ultimate antagonist, Negan.

The terrifying character has been causing havoc and killing everyone in his path for two full seasons now and, despite the fact that some of us think that the storyline has dragged on a bit too long, Negan will be sticking around for Season 9.

While Rick has the upper hand at the moment, could Negan reverse his fortune in Season 9 and put an end to Rick Grimes once and for all? The former sheriff promised Negan in the Season 7 finale that he would kill him someday, but since new showrunner Angela Kang is under no obligation to continue Scott Gimple's storylines, could we actually see Negan kill Rick instead?

At the end of the day, Rick has taken everything that Negan holds dear and made him a prisoner. Considering how full of himself Negan is, we're pretty sure that the antagonist will feel humiliated at what Rick has put him through. As a result, it's likely that Negan will stab his captor in the back the first chance he gets. Or, more appropriately, hit him over the head with Lucille the first chance he gets?

Having Jeffrey Dean Morgan's name attached to The Walking Dead has been beneficial for the show, which is likely why he will be sticking around in the future. Additionally, with Lincoln departing, there is always the potential for Negan to become one of the new protagonists — although for some of us that wouldn't be a good thing because, you know, he's the antagonist.
