7 Problems With True Detective Season 2 That Nobody Wants To Admit

5. The Actors Have Unfillable Shoes To Fill

True Detective has again pushed the boat out in terms of casting, finding a trio of big names to play three of its main characters. Colin Farrell and Rachel McAdams are a pair of detectives-at-odds, whose clashing methods and personalities are sure to bring back memories of Marty and Rust. Meanwhile, Vince Vaughn co-stars as a career criminal looking to legitimise his empire, and will surely act as the chief suspect (and potential red herring?) of the series. The black sheep is Taylor Kitsch in the suspiciously action-hero role of war veteran/motorcycle cop, an actor whose questionable pedigree pales into insignificance next to his co-stars, let alone his lauded predecessors Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey. True Detective's original leading lights turned in a near-flawless pair of performances, stacking the odds firmly against season two's newcomers.
