7 Most Shocking TV Character Deaths

1. Hank Schrader (Breaking Bad)

Hank

I don't think it'd be going too far to say that Breaking Bad was one of the best TV shows anyone with working eyeballs is likely to see. Almost everything about the show was perfect, and one of the most perfect aspects was the complex relationship between meth chef anti-hero Walter White and his DEA agent brother in-law Hank Schrader. The two were similar in that they were dedicated family men, and, despite dubious deeds and methods, often had a greater good at the cause for all they did. The fact that Walt survives under Hank's nose for so long without detection is a major play for the show, and so when all is finally made clear to the DEA agent, we were all hooked in suspense for what would become of the pair. Whilst we all could guess that Hank would be totally unwilling to allow Walt to escape, and similarly, no one would expect Walt to murder a man he himself had saved earlier in the series. The confusion about Hank's death is what provided the biggest shock of all, the Neo-Nazis Walt ordered to kill Jesse turn up and instead turn their attention on Schrader, with both Hank and Walt helpless on their knees. Throughout the pleading speech Walt gives, begging for Hank's life to be spared, and despite the ominous feeling we all got, we still somehow expected Hank to pull something out the bag and rescue himself, but it simply didn't happen. Hank being shot and buried in the desert, the location unknown to his wife was an appalling ending for a fundamentally good and true character, and truly symbolised just how far gone Walt had become in his quest for a meth empire. It may have been third last episode of the show, but many were still expecting Hank to be the one to bring Walt to justice, how wrong we were.
