8 Amazing Red Dwarf Details You Never Noticed

1. Rimmer Being Intangible... Unless The Plot Calls For It

The whole premise of Rimmer being a hologram is... well, exactly that. He's a projection, supported by a light bee that maintains that image.

Therefore, he shouldn't be able to touch anything, given that he's not really touching the floor either. This was addressed when upgraded to a "hardlight" projector in series six to allow him to interact more, but what about beforehand?

Changing costume is one thing, as it's not different than changing a skin in a videogame. Sitting down though, how does that come about? Or is that merely the projection allowing the beam to incorporate that position?

Okay, let's go with that... until series four's finale, Meltdown.

On an planet with a breathable atmosphere (to avoid technical issues, I'd imagine), Rimmer rides a motorbike as he leads the wax droids to their impending doom. Not a projection that allows him to float above scenery or whatnot. An actual bike.

This is evidenced when he pulls up to survey the carnage and you see the bike bobbling over small bumps until he stops.

Explain that one, eh?
