8 Best TV Series From 2020 That Totally Slipped Under The Radar
1. Trying
A classic BBC dramedy that ended up on Apple TV+, that is what Trying is at its core. It might be strange to see such a show on Apple TV+ but it feels so welcome on the slowly expanding service. There is nothing dark or gritty here and everything about it belongs on the BBC yet Apple swooped in and got it first.
A brilliant story of two people desperate to have children and finding out that it isn't possible may come across as a premise to a hardcore drama, or a prequel to Up, but Trying hits all the right notes in the best way.
Fronted by two great lead performances from Rafe Spall and Esther Smith, the show takes numerous twists and turns with our lead couple before taking us to the idea of adoption.
It is at times a serious and unflinching look at the process that parents to be have to go through in order to get a child. Which would be a hard comedy to pull off if it wasn't for its massive heart and flawed but good characters, which is why it is so endearing. Throw into the mix Imelda Staunton and it was one of the best unknown series of the year.
The good news that followed its release is that season 2 is on the way, whilst the first is still on Apple TV+.
